Kiev turns down Russia’s $212 gas price for January-March
MOSCOW/KIEV, Jan 11 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has set the gas price discount for Ukraine at U.S. $17.77 per 1,000 cubic meters for January–March 2016, or $212.23, according to an order seen by PRIME January 1, but Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said on January 10 that the price is unsuitable.
“We have ceased to buy gas from Russia. They sent a bill with a gas price at $212 for 1,000 cubic meters on January 1. We do not buy gas from Russia because we buy gas cheaper than Russia has offered in the E.U. The E.U.’s average gas price is about $200,” Yatsenyuk said.
The country’s gas reserves, which amount to 13 billion cubic meters, are enough to get by in the remaining part of the heating season, he said.
